Dr. Gregory Payne - Executive Program Director

J. Gregory Payne is an Associate Professor and former chair of Emerson College's Department of Communication Studies. He is Director of the Center for Ethics in Political and Health Communication, which he co-founded in 1996. He is on the Advisory board of the Journal of Health CommunicationMedia EthicsCommunication Quarterly and Journal of Promotion Management, among others. He is on the Partnership Board for Anthrax Vaccine Education and has been the invited editor for American Behavioral Scientist’s special edition on the U.S. presidential campaign for every election since 1988. He is President of the International Academy of Business Disciplines, past chair of the Political Communication Division of the National Communication Association, U.S. representative of the Global Public Relations Project, Board member for UNICEF New England, member of Eastern Communication AssociationEuropean Communication Associations, and International Communication Association, among others. 

Dr. Payne is a strong advocate of grass-roots communications campaigns and public diplomacy.  As a long time visitor to Rosarito Beach, Payne began the RediscoveRosarito project to restore the image of a once flourishing tourist destination now struggling with the lingering effects of unfair media coverage.  He holds a Ph.D from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MPA from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Janice Payne - Executive Director of the L.A. Internship Program

Janice Payne is the Executive Director of the L.A. Internship Program, which provides participants a hands-on experience in the entertainment capitol of the world through experiential learning/internships in film, television, advertising, marketing, special events, media and politics. After working with the Emerson Los Angeles Program and placing students at internship sites for a number of years, she was approached by Boston University to become the Founding Director for the L.A. Internship Program.

Janice took a brief respite to care for her mother and along with hiring a caregiver, she also purchased a condo in Rosarito Beach.  Immediately both she and her mother fell in love with the magical beach town. Currently she offers students in the L.A. Internship Program the option of traveling to Rosarito and assisting with the annual student film festival.  She continues to be active in the film festival and in Rosarito because she understands the importancce of giving back to the place she loves, Rosarito.

Michael McManus - Festival Director (Lone Knight Productions)

Michael McManus launched his independent production shingle Lone Knight Productions from his apartment in Boston in 2007, and since then has produced award-winning short films, a feature documentary which aired at the Museum of Fine Arts, and has had multiple development deals at various networks and production houses.  In 2009, Lone Knight Productions split into development of features and unscripted television, and now in 2011 has branched into scripted television.

Michael is currently working as a freelance development producer on assignment for the Emmy Award-Winning production company Magical Elves, Inc.  In the last year, he has had his hand in the creation and sale of “America’s Next Great Restaurant” on NBC, two of Bravo’s upcoming series this fall “Around the World in 80 Plates” and “Paint the Town,” as well as a credit in the production of the second highest grossing documentary and highest grossing music film of all time “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.”

He is currently developing a sitcom pilot for FX and a feature slate with Lionsgate Film.  This is his fourth year directing the Rosarito Student Film Festival.

Ada Renedo - Festival Communication Coordinator

Ada Renedo comes from the Mediterranean city of Barcelona. She holds a B.A. in Advertising and Public Relations by Universitat Ramon Llull in Spain and a Master of Arts in Communication Management by Emerson College in Boston.

Ada is a creative strategist with international experience. She has collaborated in projects and presented her work regarding crisis management, branding and cross-cultural communication in the U.S., Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Iceland, Chile, etc. She is a firm believer of Public Diplomacy and the key role that communication plays in the  global village in which we live nowadays. 

Making good use of her bilingual skills, Ada has contributed to this project since July 2009, coordinating the Emerson team, managing international relations and projects such as the Rosarito Film Festival. Ada continues her collaboration as an external consultant. Because of her outstanding and creative contribution to communication, Ada has been awarded the 2011 Helen Rose Award for Ethics in Communication by Emerson College.

Kaitlin Barnes - Festival Communication Coordinator

Katie Barnes is a native of Boston, MA, and is pursuing an M.A. in Communication Management at Emerson College. Katie received her B.A. -- with a major in Metropolitan Studies and a minor in Politics -- from New York University. Her areas of research include immigration, race relations, and contemporary music. She currently manages all recruitment and promotion for Berklee College of Music's City Music Program. Additionally, she serves as a branding consultant for a Costa Rican eco-tourism company and as a visiting lecturer for the undergraduate intercultural communication classes at Emerson College. Katie joins the RediscoveRosarito project eager to partake in a public diplomacy campaign and further her study of grassroots organization, event planning, and place branding.  Katie's most recent work for the RediscoveRosarito project is the development of the Faces of Rosarito series, which is a collection of brief testimonial videos portraying different perspectives on the beauty of this beach town, fun activities in the area, and the safe and relaxed atmosphere you’ll find in Rosarito.

Pete Hall - Media Coordinator

With a B.A. in Television/Media Production and M.A. in Communication Management from Emerson College, Pete’s main area of focus is Media and its relationship to the effects of Communication.  With a background in various TV, Film, and Video productions, Pete initially wanted to work in Reality TV or Sports Television, But after working in Los Angeles, CA and Boston, MA on various productions, he realized that returning to Graduate School and studying Communication Management would benefit him in gaining a complex understanding of how people and publics merge both media and communication.

His specific interests lie in how media can be used to deliver a message; whether it be for politics, public affairs, narrative story telling, or documentary coverage of an event, Pete enjoys seeing how various visual mediums can tell stories and how messages can be controlled to achieve an effective means to an end goal.

Irene Masot - Festival Communication Assistant

Irene Masot comes from Tarragona, a beautiful mediterranian city of Spain. With a B.A. in Advertisement and Public Relations by Universitat de Barcelona, she has been working for many diferent companies during the lasts four years: Ogilvy and Mather, FC Barcelona, Festival de Cine Documental Internacional In-Edit Beafeeter, GBC Comunicación and Colegio de Aparejadores de Barcelona. 

Specialized in PR, she is focused on the social media environment, online reputation and the management, implemention, analysis and definition of social media strategies. She is also one of the participants in the LA Intership Program 2011, where she has interned for Boarding for Breast Cancer, a non-profit youth-focused foundation dedicated to breast cancer education, prevention and support, being the social media manager of a new PR campaign.

Mariona Diaz - Festival Communication Assistant

Mariona Diaz comes from Girona (Spain) but she has been living in Barcelona for two years where she finished her B.A. in Advertising and PR. She specialized herself in Online Marketing and Social Media working for a very important company in Barcelona named Elogia. Besides, she is going to start her Master’s Degree in Direct Marketing and Online Marketing by Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, because she wants to improve her skils in the Online world, and the new Online Business.

In addition she is a stockholder of her own company named La Mosca Gironina S.L. and she is stablishing there the Marketing and Social Media department. Nowadays, she is working in the Social Media team of the Rosarito Film Festival, and interning in diferent companies in Los Angeles, CA like Boarding For Breast Cancer (Social Media) and Hip Productions,.

Pau Mosquera - Festival Communication Assistant

Pau Mosquera comes from Barcelona, city where he raised and graduated on Journalism and Advertising & Public Relations at Ramon Llull University. This are different degrees but focused on the same goal: communication; field where he wants to get developed in.

He’s been working in many different companies so far, either TV Production Companies and PR Agencies. Nowadays he’s part of the L.A. Program, which provides the opportunity to know closer how the entertainment industry works in Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world. He’s assisting Media Communications in the Rosarito Student Film Festival this 2011.

Corina Martínez Tobón - Festival and Media Assistant

Corina Martínez Tobón, nació en Tijuana, Baja California México un día 26 de diciembre de 1983,  siendo la mas pequeña de seis hermanos,  aprendió de su padre el gusto por la lectura, más tarde le enseñaría el gusto por las artes y  el respeto y orgullo por nuestra cultura y raíces mexicanas.  Su madre le enseño a creer en los sueños más difíciles y a tener fe aún si parece un imposible. De su familia aprendió que el trabajo duro y constante dan resultados tangibles, que la seguridad en sí mismo nunca debe superar la humildad y el respeto a los demás.

Es fotógrafa, narradora, guionista, directora, editora, podría ser trovadora si le gustara su voz, pero cuando se le pregunta, ella responde "algunas personas son magnificas oradoras, yo no, pero soy una persona con necesidades enormes de expresarse, así que lo hago por medio de estas disciplinas foto, video, escritura... Eso es todo, la necesidad de expresar algo".
